Raila Amolo Odinga is a Kenyan statesman and long‑time opposition leader who has served as Prime Minister (2008–2013) and is a key figure in Kenya’s democratisation. He has been a relentless fighter for constitutional reform, devolution, and economic transformation. As of 2026, he remains active in politics.

Life Story

Born in Maseno, Nyanza Province, Raila is the son of Jaramogi Oginga Odinga, Kenya’s first Vice President. He studied at the University of Leipzig in Germany and was a political prisoner during the Moi era. After the 2007–2008 post‑election crisis, he became Prime Minister under a power‑sharing agreement. He has run for President several times and enjoyed a long career as a champion of the poor and marginalised. His legacy is still unfolding.
