Life Story
Born in Yako, Upper Volta (now Burkina Faso), Sankara rose through the military ranks. As president, he changed the country's name, launched a mass vaccination campaign, promoted women's rights, and planted millions of trees to fight desertification. He refused personal luxuries and reduced his salary. After his death, his vision continued to influence activists. The Tunsia railway station in Ouagadougou later honoured him.
